The Association for the Condom Quality Seal assigns the "OK" Quality Seal
Companies which engage themselves in Switzerland selling solely condoms meeting the requirements, are given the "OK" Quality Seal, a quality certificate, by the association. Consumers are thus able to recognize the safest condoms at the point of sale.
The use of good condoms is important, not only to easily prevent unwanted pregnancy but particularly with regard to the prevention of HIV/Aids and other sexually transmitted infections like gonorrhoea or syphilis. Condoms build a tight mechanical rubber barrier and thus impede the transmission of pathogens from one person to another – provided the condoms are of really good quality, which is assured by the "OK" Quality Seal.
Condoms with the "OK" Quality Seal must meet the EuroNorm for condoms (EN ISO 4074). Though its abidance and control are completely left to the manufacturers. In order to use the "OK" Quality Seal the more rigorous standards of the Association for the Condom Quality Seal must additionally be met:
- Condoms have to pass a more severe bursting test.
- Each single production unit (lot/batch) is tested by an independent laboratory before being released for sale.
- Rondom mystery shopper additionally buy condoms from shops, chemist's and sex-shops. Testing them gives supplementary security because thus even defects, which have occurred after production (e.g. in the packaging machine or during transport and storage) are revealed.
High penalties have been stipulated in case the condoms do not comply with the quality standards and requirements of the association.
